Wild Camping

Tuesday was my last full day on the island!

It was a combo day of prep and walking: I wrote some postcards and got some souvenirs, then walked the Nature Loop trail I did on my first day, but in the opposite direction. I got some more great views, plus another sighting of my stag friend.

Afterwards, I made lunch and got a nap in before parking myself at the picnic tables out in front of the bunkhouse for some writing. This turned out to be an excellent choice of location because I got to snag one of the scones that another guest had baked up while they were still fresh from the oven.

Finally, it was time to head up the Coire Dubh trail once more to go wild camp. With a clear night ahead, I was hopeful I’d get to see some stars. I pitched off the trail, just before the second dam, near a nice smooth rock I could use for stargazing.

The evening light was lovely.

I had to be patient and wait until almost midnight, but once the last light left the sky, the stars came out. Needless to say, it was a magical last night on Rum.

Shot with only an iPhone’s ‘long’ five second exposure - I’ll have to upgrade for my next visit!
