Sunrise & Stars

Sunrise over Loch Scresort

There were lots of folks up early in the bunkhouse looking to get a jump on big walks (like the Rum Cuillin traverse, i.e. doing all the major peaks of the island in one day!) so we got to all share a gorgeous sunrise over coffee.

After that, I hung out on the porch of the community hall for a bit and did some writing.

But the big excitement for the day was joining a community swim hosted by Fliss (the owner of the Ivy Cottage BnB I stayed at when I first arrived). We met up at a cute little beach next to the old pier, just a few minutes walk from the bunkhouse. The water looked beautiful, but I knew it would be cold.

It wasn’t just cold though. It was FREEZING. Eventually, I acclimated, going in up to my neck and shouting obscenities alongside the other women who’d joined in. Afterwards, we all had a big picnic on the beach. Other families and kiddos joined in, and it became a lovely afternoon of hanging out and laughing in the sunshine. I loved chatting with so many people and getting to hear their stories.

And later on that night, I finally got some clear skies — which meant it was time for stargazing! The moon was out, so the conditions weren’t the most ideal, but still… wow. Hard to put into words.
