Bonus: Edinburgh & The Highlands
After my time on Rum, I stayed in Edinburgh for a bit, as my partner Aidan was dancing in the fringe festival at the same time I was scheduled to be in Rum (total coincidence!). Tacking on a few extra days to be able to see him perform seemed worth it, and I’m glad I did. I got to see a whirlwind of shows while I was there! Favorites included a:
Beautiful solo show about revolution, activism, and friendship
Hilarious two-person show about a pair of fish struggling with relationship issues
Stunning one man show about a man who thought he was Muhammad Ali
Raunchy storytelling show featuring the forgotten goddesses of Ireland and Scotland
Moving dance piece about men using ritual to overcome (to be fair, I’m a bit biased about this one, as it features Aidan - he’s the one with the pink hair below!)
It was such an inspiring experience, and honestly a great way to cap off my time on Rum; it really reminded me what art is capable of.
Aidan and I then spent a few days in the highlands. It wasn’t near enough time to take in all the gorgeous scenery, but we managed to get in a 20 mile hike along the West Highland Way, from the Kingshouse Hotel to Kinlochleven and back again, over the Devil’s Staircase.
We also got to see an owl sanctuary, some cute “coos”, and a beautiful sunset over Loch Ard.
And that about wraps it up! On Thursday, it’s back to NYC and Wilbur. Thanks for following along on this epic journey, and thanks again to the Tow family for making my Rum research possible. I can’t wait to see where this story goes!
